JESUS, THE ANUNNAKI, AND THE OLDER STORY BENEATH RELIGION ~ A Sacred Matrix Roundtable Revisited

What began as a discussion about the Anunnaki quickly widened into something far larger, because once the panel began connecting personal contact experiences, ancient history, religion, human origins, kingship, consciousness, extraterrestrial intervention, and the figure of Jesus, the conversation moved beyond the boundaries of any single field and became an inquiry into who we are, where we came from, and whether humanity’s religious traditions preserve fragments of a much older story.
The roundtable brought together researchers and experiencers who approached the subject from very different directions. Neil Freer came through childhood contact experiences that began years before the modern UFO era and later led him toward Zecharia Sitchin’s work.
Gerald Clark approached the Anunnaki question through engineering, military aviation, ancient genealogy, bodywork, energy systems, and comparative religion.
Robert Evans followed a trail through astronomical imagery and unexplained objects around the Sun, while Sasha Alex Lessin brought the perspective of a cultural anthropologist who had spent decades comparing Sumerian accounts with what he saw as unresolved questions in conventional anthropology.
I brought another perspective entirely, because contact with nonhuman intelligence had accompanied me from my earliest memories and, as I understand it, from before this incarnation. My experience therefore did not begin with research into the Anunnaki; the research eventually gave me language for questions I had carried for most of my life.
At the center of the discussion stood the Anunnaki, the beings described in Mesopotamian traditions and reinterpreted by Zecharia Sitchin as a technologically advanced population associated with the planet Nibiru.
Yet as the conversation developed, the larger question became not merely who the Anunnaki were, but what happened after they arrived, how deeply they became involved in human development, whether some remained after the ancient period, and whether humanity’s religious traditions preserve memories of their continuing presence.
NEIL FREER: CONTACT BEFORE THE MODERN UFO ERA
Neil Freer’s story began long before flying saucers became embedded in popular culture, because his first major experience took place in 1936, when he was only six years old and visiting relatives in rural New York.
It was a summer evening, and the men had gathered outside on a long front porch after dinner while Neil stood beside his father listening to the adults talk. At some point, a light crossed the sky, and someone suggested that it might be a mail plane, although there was no engine noise and no obvious explanation for its silence.
Neil then looked along the porch and saw the adults frozen in place, caught mid-movement and mid-syllable, as though time itself had stopped, while he remained conscious and able to move. He felt compelled to leave the porch and walk around the side of the house into the darkness, where he sensed something enormous nearby.
His memory of what happened next disappeared, and when he returned to the porch, the adults began moving and speaking again exactly where they had left off. The family soon realized that far more time had passed than anyone could account for, and Neil later interpreted the episode as a missing-time experience during which he believed he had been taken aboard a craft.
His second major experience came when he was twelve, and this time he remembered considerably more. Neil described waking in the middle of the night surrounded by a blue field while several short gray beings held him weightlessly above their heads and another, taller gray being appeared to supervise them.
When Neil asked what they were, the being said they were androids, a word that meant almost nothing to him at the time. The year was 1942, years before Roswell and before the modern UFO era had established the vocabulary later generations would use to describe such beings.
The group asked Neil to help them “get into” Earth, and when he agreed, he experienced what he described as an enormous transfer of information into his mind, far more than he could consciously understand. When he asked who directed the androids, he perceived a tall, heavily built, bearded humanoid male dressed in white, who gave Neil the impression that he and the others would watch over him throughout his life.
Although the being never identified himself by name, Neil later associated the encounter with the Anunnaki.
THE NEWSPAPER THAT LED NEIL TO SITCHIN
Neil’s direct involvement with Anunnaki research did not begin until decades later, when he was living in Woodstock, New York, in 1976 and experienced what he described as an unmistakable internal instruction to pick up a newspaper lying on his coffee table.
He rarely read that newspaper, yet when he opened it, his attention immediately fell upon a pre-publication discussion of Zecharia Sitchin’s forthcoming The 12th Planet.
Sitchin’s work provided a historical framework for experiences Neil had carried since childhood, and he immersed himself in the material, eventually meeting Sitchin, speaking at one of his conferences, and developing enough of a relationship with him that Sitchin wrote introductions for two of Neil’s books.
For Neil, Sitchin bridged personal contact and ancient history.
GERALD CLARK: ENGINEERING MEETS ANCIENT HISTORY
Gerald Clark arrived at the Anunnaki question by another route, because his background included electrical engineering, military aviation, religious study, bodywork, consciousness research, and an intense interest in the relationship between energy and matter.
Born in San Diego, Gerald spent part of his youth in rural Arkansas, where he described a UFO encounter around the age of fourteen.
At the same time, he grew up immersed in Southern Baptist Christianity and understood the doctrine of salvation from the inside, yet he also felt that certain spiritual and energetic experiences could not be fully explained by the religious language available to him.
Gerald later studied electrical engineering at the University of California, San Diego, and spent seven years flying helicopters for the U.S. Army.
Engineering gave him a framework for thinking about reality through frequency, structure, energy, gravity, matter, and measurable relationships, while his later exploration of structural integration and bodywork brought him toward another understanding of how physical structure and energy might interact.
That search eventually brought him to Hawaii, where he began connecting human physiology, gravity, energetic change, consciousness, ancient history, and the work of researchers such as Zecharia Sitchin and Laurence Gardner.
The more Gerald read, the more he saw ancient history as genealogy rather than as a collection of unrelated myths, and he began constructing extensive charts that traced Anunnaki figures across cultures, names, dynasties, religions, and historical traditions.
ROBERT EVANS: LOOKING TOWARD THE SUN
Robert Evans approached the subject from observation rather than ancient texts, because his interest deepened when he began examining unusual astronomical images and objects appearing in online telescope data around 2007 and 2008.
He tracked coordinates, studied solar imagery, contacted people with technical backgrounds, and accumulated thousands of images from solar-observing satellites that he believed showed enormous artificial objects moving around the Sun.
Some appeared to approach it, others seemed to move away, and still others, in his interpretation, appeared to interact with objects outside the visible field.
Robert began comparing the shapes he observed with ancient depictions from the Middle East, particularly winged figures and symbols associated with Zoroastrian traditions, and over time he became increasingly convinced that modern imagery and ancient accounts might belong to the same larger story.
Robert did not begin with Sitchin and work forward; he began with the images and worked backward, later concluding that Sitchin’s reconstruction appeared to correspond with what he believed he was observing.

Sasha Alex Lessin came to the Anunnaki question through anthropology itself, because the discipline that trained him also left open questions about human origins that its own models still struggle to answer.
He grew up in Torrance, California, the son of an attorney who read him The Outline of History chapter by chapter and taught him to weigh every authority, religious ones included, against the evidence.
Sasha took his M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology at UCLA, and his fieldwork carried him to Fiji, where he lived among the Tongan community of Sawana on Vanua Balavu and produced Village of the Conquerors, an ethnography Pacific historians still cite more than fifty years on.
He went on to teach at the University of Hawaii and rose to dean in a school of counseling, while a second education ran alongside the first: encounter group work with Carl Rogers, a master’s in counseling psychology, hypnotherapy, holotropic breathwork in Stanislav Grof’s first training group, Jungian past-life work in Roger Woolger’s tradition, and Voice Dialogue under Dick Price and Drs. Hal and Sidra Stone.
Then in 1997 he met Janet Kira Lessin, and she moved in by September and left a copy of The Gods of Eden in the bathroom for him to read. One morning, he woke up wanting to know whether more existed. She said yes and drove him to Borders, where they bought every Sitchin title on the shelf and ordered the rest.
Robin and Cody Johnson of the Prophet’s Conference sponsored Sitchin’s certification program and gifted the Lessins their places in it, and the two worked for the Johnsons for years afterward. They attended nearly every Sitchin event thereafter, flying sixteen to twenty hours each way from Maui, until the final gatherings ran too short to justify the trip.
Both read widely across sources rather than resting on one, and their library now runs floor to ceiling through two rooms. Together they have written six books on the Anunnaki and hundreds of articles on the Anunnaki, experiencers, disclosure, the paranormal, and psychology.
JANET KIRA LESSIN: CONTACT FROM THE BEGINNING
My own path into this work began before I had words for extraterrestrials, UFOs, Anunnaki, reincarnation, or consciousness research, because I came into this life with what I understood as awareness of myself as an eternal being and with contact experiences reaching back to the crib and, in my understanding, beyond this incarnation into other states of existence.
My mother rarely acknowledged those experiences and was frightened by anomalous phenomena, which made the validation I received from peers particularly important when they witnessed unusual events with me.
At the same time, my mother’s own experience of reality was more complicated than she generally admitted; I once saw her in broad daylight speaking with her deceased mother, who had manifested visibly before us.
Contact continued through my life, often accompanied by memory suppression that I eventually understood, at least in part, as protection.
During my years connected with Johnston Atoll (1995-1997), I remember encounters involving several kinds of nonhuman intelligences and experiences in which I functioned as a telepathic intermediary or translator, receiving communication in forms that carried thought, imagery, emotion, and meaning together rather than through ordinary speech.
At the soul level, I understand that I agreed to participate as a hybrid mother, while at the level of the greater self, I experience Janet, Joy, Kira, Ninmah, and other related centers of consciousness as simultaneous existences rather than personalities sharing one body.
Each retains her own form, memories, perspective, and vibratory frequency, while awareness can shift among those centers without requiring possession or shared embodiment.
Within that framework, I understand myself as an avatar of Ninmah while Ninmah simultaneously retains her own existence, and I perceive our joint work, along with other expressions of my greater self, as part of a larger effort to prepare humanity for open
Contact and for an expansion of consciousness that may accompany our recognition of a far greater community of intelligent life.
I do not believe the Anunnaki ever completely left Earth, and what many people may eventually call their return could be less an arrival than a collective recognition of a presence that has continued throughout human history.
THE ANUNNAKI STORY
The discussion then turned to the basic Anunnaki narrative, which, in the reconstruction presented during the roundtable, began with the planet Nibiru, a world associated with a long elliptical orbit through the solar system.
Political conflict on Nibiru eventually brought Alalu to Earth, where gold became a critical resource the newcomers sought. The Anunnaki established settlements, mining operations, transportation routes, and eventually a substantial presence extending between Earth and Mars.
Central figures included Anu, Enki, Enlil, Ninmah, Ninurta, Marduk, Nannar, and Ningshzida, and the story gradually shifted from extraterrestrial settlement to something far more consequential for humanity.
According to this interpretation of the ancient material, the Anunnaki modified an existing Earth hominin population to create workers capable of performing labor that the Anunnaki themselves no longer wished to carry out.
In this reconstruction, human beings therefore emerged as a hybrid population with both terrestrial and Anunnaki ancestry.
That single idea transformed the entire discussion because, if humanity carries Anunnaki ancestry, then the relationship between humans and the beings remembered as gods becomes a family history rather than a distant extraterrestrial encounter.
DID SOME ANUNNAKI REMAIN ON EARTH?
Neil believed some Anunnaki may never have left, while Gerald proposed that long residence on Earth could have altered their physiology so dramatically that returning to Nibiru became dangerous or impossible.
That possibility changed the story because the beings who arrived as rulers, scientists, administrators, miners, and explorers may have eventually become biologically tied to the very world they came to exploit.
Some may have departed, some may have remained, and others may have withdrawn from public view while continuing to influence human civilization.
My own experience leads me farther still, because I do not believe the Anunnaki ever completely withdrew from Earth. From that perspective, the question is not simply when they will return, but when humanity will become collectively aware of a presence that has continued all along.
FROM SUMER TO JESUS
Because the broadcast took place on Easter weekend, the conversation naturally shifted toward Jesus, Christianity, and the possibility that religious traditions preserve fragments of a much older history. Neil introduced the work of Laurence Gardner and the idea that the Holy Grail was not primarily an object, cup, or relic but a bloodline.
In this interpretation, the Grail represented a dynastic lineage extending through Mesopotamia, Egypt, Hebrew traditions, the Essenes, and eventually Jesus and Mary Magdalene.
Neil described Enki as the originator of a line of rulers intended to continue guiding humanity after the Anunnaki withdrew from overt rule, with Cain becoming central to that lineage not simply as the familiar biblical figure of later theology but as the beginning of a royal succession whose intended purpose was stewardship.
JESUS, MARY MAGDALENE, AND THE GRAIL LINE
The conversation then turned to the Essene tradition and the possibility that Jesus belonged to a carefully maintained royal lineage governed by strict rules around marriage, conception, birth, and succession.
Neil suggested that Jesus may have been born outside the expected timetable, raising questions about legitimacy and succession, while James also entered the debate over who properly inherited the royal position.
Mary Magdalene emerged in a radically different role from the one assigned to her in later Christian traditions because, in this interpretation, she belonged to a royal lineage of her own, and her importance rested partly on continuing that bloodline.
If dynastic transmission depended on women, then discrediting Mary Magdalene carried political consequences because diminishing her also diminished the lineage’s legitimacy.
NINGSHZIDA, THOTH, HERMES, AND JESUS
Gerald then pushed the conversation into even more provocative territory by connecting the Sumerian figure Ningshzida with the Egyptian Thoth, the Greek Hermes, Melchizedek, Yehoshua, and ultimately Jesus.
The argument did not require that all these figures represented one biological individual living continuously across thousands of years, because Gerald considered reincarnation, incarnation, consciousness transfer, and other ways intelligence might repeatedly enter physical embodiment.
The central figure remained Ningshzida.
In Sitchin’s reconstruction, Ningshzida received a mandate from Anu to teach humanity, and Gerald saw that role as one of the most important clues in the entire story.
If Ningshzida had been sent to Earth to teach civilization, then later teacher figures associated with wisdom, transformation, sacred knowledge, resurrection, alchemy, and human awakening could be understood as different expressions of a continuing mission rather than as wholly disconnected religious personalities.
Note from Janet: Based on additional research and discussions with Glenn Bogue, I conclude that the father (Enki) and son (Ningishzida) have been conflated and that Jesus is Enki, Yehoshua, and Melchizedek. Ningishzida is Hermes and Thoth. The holy ghost is Mary. That holy trinity created human beings.
THE BODY AS THE TEMPLE
Gerald connected this ancient teacher tradition with human consciousness itself, suggesting that the familiar phrase “the body is the temple” might describe something deeper than later religious interpretations allowed.
The seven chakras, pineal gland, caduceus, alchemical transformation, energetic awakening, and teachings attributed to Jesus could all be interpreted as parts of a larger process through which human consciousness becomes increasingly capable of recognizing and directing its own potential.
Within that framework, transformation does not depend entirely upon temples, churches, priests, or institutions because the essential mechanism already exists within the human being.
The teacher’s purpose, therefore, would not simply be to create another religion but to show humanity how consciousness itself could evolve.
THE HISTORICAL JESUS AND THE THEOLOGICAL JESUS
Neil drew an important distinction between the historical Jesus and the theological Jesus created by later institutions.
Over centuries, political interests, ecclesiastical disputes, competing bishops, religious councils, imperial authority, and institutional theology reshaped the figure who eventually became the center of orthodox Christianity.
Neil believed the resulting Jesus represented a synthesis that obscured the original person beneath layers of doctrine, transforming a teacher, royal heir, husband, father, and participant in a living historical movement into a theological figure increasingly removed from the political and dynastic context in which he had lived.
MARY MAGDALENE AND THE SURVIVING LINE
Sasha added traditions that placed Jesus and Mary Magdalene in southern France after the events traditionally associated with the Crucifixion, where Jesus was said to have survived, raised a family, and continued teaching.
Their descendants, according to those traditions, later intermarried with European royal houses, creating a bloodline that continued long after the original events in Judea.
If that interpretation is correct, then the Grail was never truly lost; it survived through genealogy.
A WAR BETWEEN TWO SYSTEMS
Throughout the discussion, another pattern repeatedly surfaced: the ancient rivalry between Enki and Enlil and the possibility that human political, religious, and dynastic conflicts continued to reflect competing systems associated with them.
Ancient wars, royal disputes, theological divisions, and struggles over human control could therefore be interpreted as later expressions of a much older conflict in which different factions promoted different relationships with humanity.
Gerald described these competing systems as emphasizing very different values, with one tending toward hierarchy, obedience, domination, and control while the other emphasized knowledge, development, consciousness, and the possibility that human beings could eventually mature beyond servitude.
Within that framework, the story of Jesus became another chapter in a much older struggle over what humanity was allowed to become.
HUMANITY MUST GROW UP
Near the end of the conversation, Neil deliberately shifted the discussion away from ancient history and toward humanity’s future because, from his perspective, endless debate about the past accomplished very little unless it helped us prepare for what comes next.
If humanity truly belongs to a larger cosmic community, then our greatest obstacle may not be technological at all but psychological, political, and cultural.
We remain divided into nations, religions, races, ideologies, economies, military blocs, and institutions that continually reinforce separation and conflict, and Neil believed humanity had to “break the god spell,” stop surrendering responsibility to external gods and authorities, and begin functioning as a mature planetary civilization before we could participate responsibly in a wider stellar society.
WHAT WOULD WE SAY IF THEY BECAME OPENLY VISIBLE?
That question gave the final portion of the roundtable its direction. If the Anunnaki became openly visible again, how should humanity respond? Would we worship them, fear them, fight them, or finally meet them as relatives?
Whatever relationship may once have existed between humanity and the Anunnaki, I do not believe we should return to the old hierarchy. If they are our ancestors, that does not make us their servants; if they possess technology or knowledge we need, we should exchange it through mutual respect rather than submission.
Humanity has developed its own cultures, sciences, identities, moral systems, and consciousness, and any future relationship must acknowledge that growth.
We can recognize ancestry without surrendering sovereignty, learn without kneeling, and listen without automatically turning more advanced beings into gods.
THE SHIPS NEAR THE SUN
Robert returned the discussion to the present by pointing toward the unexplained objects he believed were already entering the solar system and appearing around the Sun.
Some of the imagery he studied seemed, in his interpretation, to show enormous craft interacting with incoming objects or threats, raising questions about whether these were Anunnaki vessels, another extraterrestrial civilization, or something else entirely.
The roundtable could not answer those questions, yet Robert remained convinced that the images deserved serious attention rather than dismissal.
If artificial craft were already moving through our solar system, then humanity’s relationship with other intelligences might not belong to the future at all but might already be underway.
DISCLOSURE MAY NOT COME FROM GOVERNMENT
By the end of the discussion, the panel had moved toward another shared realization: humanity may wait forever if we expect governments, institutions, universities, or official authorities to settle the extraterrestrial question for us.
Contact may not arrive through a presidential announcement or government hearing. It may emerge through personal experience, archaeological discovery, astronomical observation, historical reconstruction, scientific anomaly, telepathic communication, or the appearance of something in the sky that can no longer be ignored.
Neil and his colleagues were already sending what he described as a deliberate invitation to those other intelligences, expressing their willingness to engage without fear.
Not everyone may be ready, and perhaps no civilization ever becomes completely ready, but enough people may already be asking the questions that prepare the ground for what comes next.
THE QUESTION THAT REMAINS
The Sacred Matrix roundtable never reached a neat conclusion, and perhaps that is precisely why the discussion still matters.
Neil Freer understood his childhood experiences as the beginning of a lifelong assignment that eventually led him into Anunnaki research and the question of humanity’s future among other civilizations.
Gerald Clark searched for the hidden architecture connecting consciousness, genealogy, physics, ancient history, religion, and the beings remembered as gods.
Robert Evans watched the Sun and searched modern astronomical imagery for evidence that the ancient visitors never truly disappeared, while Sasha searched anthropology and ancient history for the pieces that conventional models had left unexplained.
My own life added another thread: contact, memory suppression, simultaneous existence, my connection with Ninmah, and my understanding of humanity’s larger relationship with nonhuman intelligence have all led me to the conclusion that the question is not simply whether they exist or whether they once came here.
The deeper question is what humanity is becoming as we begin to remember. If we carry the legacy of other civilizations in our bodies, cultures, religions, myths, bloodlines, and memories, then disclosure is not merely about discovering extraterrestrials; it is about discovering ourselves within a much larger history.
If the beings remembered as gods once walked beside us, created with us, fought over us, taught us, loved us, ruled us, and remained connected with us afterward, then their departure never truly ended the story.
The story continued through humanity, through contact, through consciousness, and through the witnesses who kept encountering pieces of a reality our culture had forgotten how to recognize. The next chapter may not begin when they return. It may begin when we finally realize they never entirely left.

NEIL FREER
Neil Freer was a philosopher, author, lecturer, and pioneering researcher whose work explored the implications of the Anunnaki narrative for human origins, religion, consciousness, and humanity’s future among extraterrestrial civilizations. His research was deeply influenced by his friendship and intellectual association with Zecharia Sitchin, whose translations and interpretations of ancient Mesopotamian texts became an important foundation for Freer’s later philosophical work.
Freer also described extraordinary childhood contact experiences that he eventually interpreted as part of a lifelong preparation for his later research. Rather than treating the Anunnaki question simply as ancient history, he continually pushed the discussion toward its implications for humanity’s future. He argued that human civilization must outgrow dependence upon external gods, inherited religious authority, tribal division, and planetary fragmentation if we hope to participate responsibly in a larger cosmic community.
His work emphasized what he called humanity’s transition into a mature planetary species. In the Sacred Matrix discussion revisited here, Freer repeatedly returned to the question beneath the historical material: if humanity is not alone, what kind of civilization must we become before we are ready to meet other intelligences openly and without either worship or fear?
GERALD CLARK
Gerald Clark was an author, lecturer, engineer, researcher, and former military aviation professional whose work connected ancient history, the Anunnaki, genealogy, religion, consciousness, energy systems, physics, sacred symbolism, and alternative interpretations of human origins. His technical background shaped how he approached ancient narratives, often asking whether descriptions traditionally interpreted as religious symbolism might encode technological, biological, or scientific information.
Clark became particularly interested in connections among Sumerian traditions, Egyptian knowledge systems, biblical narratives, human genealogy, the pineal gland, chakras, the caduceus, alchemy, and the possibility that recurring teacher figures across history represented manifestations of a continuing mission to educate humanity. During the Sacred Matrix roundtable, he explored provocative connections among Ningishzida, Thoth, Hermes, Melchizedek, Yehoshua, and Jesus, framing them within a much older tradition of wisdom transmission.

Although Gerald Clark died in 2020, his interviews, books, lectures, and archived discussions continue to circulate among people investigating ancient civilizations and alternative human history.
ROBERT “BOB” EVANS
Robert “Bob” Evans approached the extraterrestrial question from astronomical observation rather than ancient texts. His interest deepened during the late 2000s as he examined publicly available solar imagery and began tracking unusual objects that appeared, in his interpretation, in images captured by solar-observing satellites and other astronomical systems.
Evans collected thousands of images and compared shapes, movements, coordinates, solar activity, and objects that seemed to appear near the Sun. He believed some of the imagery suggested enormous artificial structures or craft moving toward, away from, or around the Sun, and he explored whether some objects might even be interacting with incoming bodies or other unexplained phenomena within the solar system.
Only later did Evans begin comparing what he believed he was observing with ancient depictions and the work of researchers such as Zecharia Sitchin. That sequence made his contribution to the Sacred Matrix roundtable distinctive: he did not begin with the Anunnaki narrative and search for confirmation in the sky. He began with astronomical imagery and worked backward, eventually concluding that ancient accounts and modern observations might belong to the same larger unresolved story.
