In 8670 BCE, Ninmah mediated a brutal war between Commander Enlil’s faction—the Enlil-ites, led by Ninurta, Adad, Utu, and Inanna—and the Enki-ites–Enki’s followers, led by Marduk, Nergal, Gibil, Horus, and Enki himself.

Following the war, Enlil divided Middle Eastern fiefs among his lineage, while Enki assigned African territories to his descendants.

Inanna erupted with fury when Enki selected Ningishzidda, his son with Ereshkigal, to replace Marduk as Lord of the Nile. Inanna demanded control, claiming her right to rule the Upper Nile with Dumuzi, Marduk’s brother.
