THE TOUR

Soldiers escorted Tom and Sara away from their ship, Gus. Supreme Commander Robert Clark led the way, narrating as they moved through a vessel defined by fluid architecture.
The ship featured movable levels, floating floors, and map stations at every junction. While the central Command Control remained stationary, the surrounding decks could detach and reconfigure. “The Great Council thought it easier if we matched your military structure,” Robert explained. “Army for you, Tom. Navy for Sara.”
Tom, recalling his earlier friction with the Council on Earth, remained skeptical. “How considerate,” he replied.
Beyond the landing bay, the military escort departed. The tour accelerated through a series of conference rooms where Robert introduced a dozen officers. Sara noted only two women among the ranks. They traversed the massive interior via moving sidewalks, cableless elevators, and single-person gliders on air cushions.
A golf cart eventually brought them to a sprawling restaurant and retail district. Translators—tiny voice-to-ear connections—allowed the diverse alien cultures to communicate. Tom was stunned to see familiar Earth brands. “Look—Ponderosa. And a Bonanza steak house?”
“Very good steak,” Robert noted. “Similar to your buffalo. I eat there often.”
THE COMMAND CENTER
Robert led them to the forward Command Center, a massive chamber filled with technology that defied Earthly physics. Radar systems, designed in deep space, operated light-years ahead of terrestrial capabilities.
“The words for these controls have no English equivalent,” Robert said. “They sound like a fusion of Chinese, Russian, and Egyptian.”
He explained that the flagship monitored four other ships currently on Earth via sound vibrations, dark matter, and a “fifth element” unknown to human science. The room spanned 300 feet by 600 feet, housing hundreds of personnel at tiered stations. Some crew members used personal force fields to fly between levels, posting holographic data onto screens that appeared out of thin air.
QUARTERS

After a brief communication session with the other fleet ships, Robert escorted them to their living quarters. The ship consisted of nearly 1,000 levels, though several remained closed due to damage sustained in a gaseous wormhole.
“Your quarters are here, Sara,” Robert said, stopping the cart. “Tom’s is just down the corridor. We accommodate your three-dimensional thinking, though we function in more than five dimensions.”
Sara’s quarters had no doorknob; the door responded to her voice. Inside, the “barracks” Tom expected were nowhere to be found. Instead, they stepped into a suite resembling a spread from Southern Living. It featured a simulated rock fireplace with a blue, heat-emitting flame and a bookshelf stocked with Earth classics like Moby-Dick and James Bond novels.
The kitchen was high-end stainless steel with dark wood cabinetry. A holographic projection room—reminiscent of a Star Trek holodeck—showed a serene lake with ducks and a small boat.
Tom’s quarters, 50 feet away, mirrored the luxury but featured cherry wood and mahogany finishes. However, Tom’s suite contained a hidden feature: a wall that retracted to reveal a mini control center.

THE AIDES

Two aides were assigned to them: Lara, a young woman with a Russian accent for Tom, and Franco, an Italian-accented man for Sara.
“We choose which Earth language to learn,” Lara explained.
While the accommodations were luxurious, Tom felt the weight of constant surveillance. In the hidden control room, Lara demonstrated that they could tap into any computer on Earth—from the Pentagon to the private lives of Tom’s sisters.
“I’d like a private talk with Sara,” Tom told Lara, his unease growing.
DINNER

They met at a German restaurant in the food court. Tom, ever the intelligence officer, sat with his back to the wall. He ordered the aides to a separate table.
“It’s smothering,” Sara whispered. “We’re never alone. The walls have ears.”
“They’re trying to make us comfortable,” Sara countered, though she looked unconvinced.
Tom’s frustration peaked when he realized the aides were meant to live in their second bedrooms. “I’m the Commander,” Tom stated. “I want my privacy.”
He summoned Robert Clark and demanded that the aides be moved to their own quarters down the hall. Clark nodded and complied. After a meal of Schnitzel that Tom admitted was the best he’d had since Germany, they returned to their respective rooms.
THE GREAT COUNCIL

Back in his quarters, Tom found Lara’s belongings gone. A green light flashed on his desk.
“The connection is up to the home world,” Lara’s voice announced over the intercom.
Tom entered the control room. The far wall transformed into a screen, revealing twelve humanoid figures seated at a long table. They wore dark hoods; their faces remained in shadow.
“Commander Bradley,” the figure in the center said, dismissing Lara. “Please have a seat.”
Tom sat as the chair molded to his frame. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it, facing the council.

WELCOME ABOARD
After disembarking from GUS, Tom Bradley and Sara Bolton were escorted deeper into the Command Ship by a contingent of uniformed soldiers. Supreme Commander Robert Clark walked with them, speaking as they moved through the vast interior.
The ship revealed itself in layers. Entire levels shifted and reconfigured as needed. Flight decks extended and retracted. Floors floated, stabilized by unseen forces. Map stations appeared at regular intervals, offering orientation in an environment that resisted conventional spatial logic. The level they occupied could detach and reconnect to other sections of the ship, while the core—Command Control and Robert’s office—remained fixed near the forward top deck, protected by hulls Robert described as the strongest ever engineered.
Tom absorbed the information quietly. There was, as he put it, “a lot to learn.”
Robert explained that the Great Council had chosen to model rank and structure after familiar Earth systems to ease the transition. Tom’s authority mapped most closely to an Army framework, while Sara’s aligned with naval command.
Tom acknowledged the effort with dry humor. He had already spoken with the Great Council from GUS while still on Earth, and the exchange had been tense. Now that he was physically aboard their fleet, he intended to observe carefully and learn as much as possible.
Once they passed beyond the landing bay, the military escort peeled away. The group entered a conference room where a dozen officers waited. Robert introduced them by name and rank. Sara noted that only two were women.
From there, the tour accelerated. Moving sidewalks carried them between sections. Elevators operated without visible cables or power sources. Golf carts glided silently across open corridors. Single-person gliders hovered on air cushions, maneuvering independently through the space. Tom wanted to stop and question the technology, but the pace made that impractical.
The elevator felt familiar enough in function to offer a small sense of grounding, even as its mechanics defied inspection.
A golf cart transported them through a bustling restaurant district lined with retail spaces. Beings of multiple species moved freely in civilian attire. The driver explained that everyone wore discreet voice-to-ear translation devices, allowing seamless communication across languages.
The variety was striking. Restaurants catered to different cultures, with names designed to feel recognizable to human visitors. Sara pointed out a sign reading Ponderosa. Tom noticed another—Bonanza—and asked if it was a steakhouse.
Robert confirmed that it was and described the meat as similar to Earth’s cattle and buffalo. It was one of his preferred dining spots.
This district, they learned, was only one of many. Restaurants existed on nearly every level. This particular area was located near their assigned quarters and was often used for visiting dignitaries.
When Tom asked about physical training facilities, Robert indicated that a gym was nearby.
As they continued, Tom addressed the growing awkwardness of titles. He explained that he was not operating in an official capacity and preferred to be addressed simply as Tom, with Sara likewise addressed by name.
Robert agreed and made a request of his own. He asked Tom to call him Robert—his Earth name—which he said he rarely heard spoken.
THE COMMAND CENTER
Robert then led them forward into the Command Center, a massive space dedicated to navigation and fleet coordination.
He described the ship’s radar systems as space-designed technology, far beyond anything developed on Earth. Tom acknowledged the claim without argument.
The room operated on principles unfamiliar to human perception. Screens appeared to occupy a dimensional plane slightly offset from the physical space. Technicians charted courses using color systems and motion patterns that suggested multidimensional data processing.
Tom remarked that the technology exceeded anything he expected to understand within a single lifetime.
Robert walked them through the controls. Many systems had no Earth equivalent, and the terminology blended phonetics reminiscent of multiple ancient and modern languages. This room, Robert explained, served as the ship’s primary communication hub. From here, he issued orders to every vessel in the fleet and monitored operations near Earth, including satellite systems and advanced communication methods based on sound vibration, particle interaction, wave mechanics, dark matter, and fundamental forces beyond current human science. He referenced a fifth element not yet identified on Earth.
Tom asked whether the four other ships near Earth remained in constant communication.
They did.
The group then entered an even larger space—the flagship command area. The scale was immense: hundreds of feet wide and long, filled with hundreds of personnel stationed at multiple vertical levels. Seating systems suspended individuals in gravitationally stabilized positions, allowing them to float while remaining anchored to mobile consoles. Personnel moved freely through the space, some traversing the air itself, protected by personal force fields that prevented collisions.
Holographic displays materialized and dissolved as needed, allowing fleet-wide communication to occur without visible effort.
QUARTERS
After concluding business in the Command Center, Robert escorted them toward their living quarters. Golf carts carried them to elevators servicing higher levels of the ship.
Robert explained that the ship contained roughly one thousand levels, some of which were currently unused due to damage sustained during passage through a wormhole in a gaseous region of space. Repairs were ongoing, and systems had been redistributed to maintain functionality.
Gold carts hovered near every elevator, staffed by drivers. Robert clarified that the layout itself was dynamic. Levels shifted position like pieces on a virtual chessboard, and energy grids were calibrated to accommodate human spatial understanding.
They traveled what felt like several miles before stopping.
Sara’s quarters were located first, with Tom’s positioned farther down the corridor on the opposite side. Robert explained that the design accounted for human three-dimensional perception, while the ship itself operated across more than five dimensions.
SARA’S QUARTERS
Sara’s door lacked any visible handle.
Access, Robert explained, was biometric and voice-activated. Only Sara could open it from the outside by speaking the command. Access permissions would expand over time.
Inside, the space was expansive and meticulously designed to feel familiar. Tom had expected military-style accommodations. Instead, the living area resembled a luxury Earth residence, complete with modern furniture, lighting, and a simulated stone fireplace emitting a blue flame that produced real heat. The carpet displayed a detailed world map of Earth.
Bookshelves held Earth literature and media—Moby Dick, Sherlock Holmes, James Bond novels—along with gaming systems and a computer workstation.
Beyond the living room lay a dining area, a fully equipped kitchen, and a briefing room overlooking a projected lake scene complete with ducks and a small boat.
Sara experimented with the holographic projection system, watching colors and environments shift instantly. She questioned whether such technology existed on Earth but remained inaccessible to the public.
TOM’S QUARTERS AND THE AIDES
Tom’s quarters mirrored Sara’s in layout but reflected his preferences—darker wood tones, stone elements, and a more utilitarian aesthetic. He discovered clothing tailored precisely to his size and habits. The level of personalization unsettled Sara, who remarked that the ship felt like an intensified version of GUS’s anticipatory systems.
Robert explained that all accommodations were based on dossiers compiled through observation.
When Tom asked about communication and support, Robert demonstrated the ship’s Earth-style computer interfaces, capable of voice or typed commands and secure contact with specific individuals across the fleet.
A second bedroom in each suite was designated for aides or guests. Tom objected to the idea of an aide residing full-time within his living space.
Two aides were introduced: Lara, assigned to Tom, who spoke with a Russian accent, and Franco, assigned to Sara, who spoke Italian. Both explained that they were required to learn English as well as an additional Earth language of their choosing.
Tom later discovered a hidden control room in his quarters—an auxiliary command center designed to route communications from the home world. Lara demonstrated its capabilities, including access to Earth-based systems and even live audio monitoring of Tom’s family members. The revelation disturbed him.
He requested a private conversation with Sara.
DINNER AND BOUNDARIES
They met for dinner in a nearby restaurant district. Tom chose a German restaurant out of habit. The food, including schnitzel and fried potatoes, tasted indistinguishable from Earth cuisine.
Sara admitted feeling overwhelmed by the constant presence of aides and surveillance. Tom shared her concern and insisted that both aides be relocated to separate quarters nearby rather than living within their apartments.
Robert responded promptly to the request and agreed to make the change. Shortly afterward, the aides’ belongings were removed from the secondary bedrooms.
THE GREAT COUNCIL
When Tom returned to his quarters, an alert signaled that communication with the home world had been established.
Lara activated the connection. An entire wall illuminated, revealing twelve humanoid figures seated at a long table, their faces concealed beneath dark hoods.
Tom dismissed Lara and took his seat as the chair formed to his body.
The central figure addressed him directly.
“Commander Bradley, please have a seat.”
Tom leaned back, lit a cigarette, and prepared to hear what the Great Council had to say.
