Fifty-five years later we pick up the strange new world of the ORIGINAL Enterprise, before Kirk, with Captain Pike at the helm, Number One at his side, and a very young Mr. Spock as the science officer. I’m very excited as on September 8, 1966, when Star Trek TOS (the original series) premiered, I was only 12 years old. I literally jumped up and down on my bed, squealing with delight, during the commercials. I ordered everyone in the room that I invited to watch with me, to be quiet and totally silent for the moment the show started up again.
I remember my poor father, who was a mail carrier which made our family economically challenged, put a color TV on his credit card for me so I could watch Star Trek in color. That summer before the fall television season launched, I lobbied him every time a commercial came on. I was so awful. I ordered that poor man that I simply MUST have a color TV before the show began. He could not resist me, the youngest, the princess. So before Dad and Mom and the rest of the family got a color TV, Dad got me mine which was put in my room. What an incredible father. I miss him every day.
