Dave Hunt Transcript — Cleaned and Smoothed Version

Welcome, everyone. The weather is back to normal in Wales, and I’m getting soaked, but here we are. I promised I would make this video, and that’s what I’m going to do. Before I begin, I need to explain that at the time this happened, I had no concept of astral travel. I had never heard of the kinds of experiences people described on DMT or other psychedelics. Later in life, I did experiment with some of those things to see whether they were at all similar to what happened to me, and I did have some profound experiences, but that is a conversation for another time. I was about fifteen when this happened.

At that age, I was depressed in the way many teenagers are. I was going through the usual angst, and school was coming to an end. I was starting to think about the fact that I would need to get a job, become an adult, and step into a life I did not really want. I wasn’t motivated. I didn’t feel engaged by any of it. One night, I went to bed in that low mood, lying there in my bedroom, and all of a sudden, I heard what I can only describe as an American game show host’s voice say, “Let’s go.” The next thing I knew, I was free-falling upward.

Looking back, I’m sure it wasn’t my physical body. It felt more like what people might call an astral body, although at the time I had no language for that. What I can say is that it felt completely real and terrifying. There seemed to be no end to the acceleration. I was going up and up and up, through the roof, into the sky. Terror is not quite a strong enough word for what I felt. It happened very fast, and because I was young and had no framework for it, I assumed I was dying. I thought perhaps this was death, that I had left my body and was heading to heaven or whatever came next.

I kept rising. For most of it, my eyes were closed, but at one point, I opened them and saw the glow of the Earth, which made me realize I was heading out into what we would call space. I did not look back, so I cannot tell you whether the Earth appeared flat or round. All I know is that it was behind me, and I was leaving it in a hurry. As I continued upward, it seemed I was accelerating faster and faster toward an absurd speed. Then, at what I can only describe as the speed of light, the acceleration suddenly stopped, and I felt as though I had gone beyond speed itself, if that makes any sense.

At that moment, the whole experience changed. It took on an entirely different quality. I no longer felt that I was in physical reality, and I no longer even felt that I was in what people might call astral reality. Everything about it was different. I had no body. I was simply aware in a place that felt unlike anything I had ever known, and yet at the same time, I had an overwhelming sense that this was real in a way I had never before understood real to be. The closest comparison I can make is that it was like having lived your entire life underwater and then, for the first time, being pulled out into the air, into your true natural environment. It felt as though I had been lifted above water and finally encountered reality itself.

In that place, I had no reference point for what I was, where I was, or even who I was. Human emotions no longer seemed to matter. Depression and anxiety were simply gone. Anything connected to my personal life had vanished. Even happiness seemed absurdly small and irrelevant compared to what existed there. What remained was something closer to pure bliss, but even that word is incomplete. It was a bliss of truth, a bliss of what is real, with nothing false in it. There were no directions, no up or down, no right or left, no distance, no closeness. There was nothing by which I could orient myself. It was absolute stillness, absolute openness, absolute absence of structure.

I have since heard other people speak about something like this as “the void,” especially in relation to DMT experiences, but at the time I had no such language. I was simply there, with no understanding of why, until something began to communicate with me. I call it a voice for the sake of storytelling, but it was not a voice in the normal sense. It was more like information was being directly conveyed to me. Whenever it communicated, I simply understood. Words fail here because it was not like hearing speech; it was more like receiving complete meaning all at once.

What it conveyed first was that this was reality. This, it told me, was what is true. In contrast, everything I had experienced up to that point in the world was false, because the world itself was false. It did not present this in a negative or hostile way. Rather, it communicated it almost poetically, as if the world were a piece of art that consciousness creates. Not evil, not good, simply a created thing. I was stunned and still frightened, but there was also a love and a bliss permeating the place, and that calmed me. It explained that it was showing this to me because I genuinely wanted to know, and that if you truly, deeply want to know, then it will reveal itself to you as well, because it is not separate from you. It is not your enemy, not your god, not your master, not your servant. It is you.

Then it showed me something even harder to describe. It explained that reality was not what I thought it was—not streets and buildings and people and cars—but something much stranger. It said it wanted to show me how it creates reality. The place I was in had a kind of black, velvety texture, though even those words are not quite right. It was like a glittering darkness with substance, something like the night sky but denser, richer, more textured. In front of me, if I can even say “in front,” a vortex began to swirl. I did not have a face or eyes as such, only awareness, but I could perceive it. Pressure was building, and one vortex spun downward while another spun upward in the opposite direction, both converging on a single point. As I witnessed this, I felt an immense excitement, a kind of ecstatic static in the very fabric of what was happening. Then a perfect white light appeared between the two vortexes.

That white light looked like a star in the night sky, but more perfect than any star. It was absolutely white, shining, flawless. The communicating presence said to me, “What you are looking at is everything that ever was, is, and will ever happen in your reality. It is not how you think it is.” I was somehow able to move closer, or focus deeper, and inside that white light, I saw what looked like waveforms, almost like electromagnetic waveforms, moving everywhere. It explained that reality is an information field, a field of frequency and information created by pure will. Consciousness interacts with that field, and together they generate what we experience. If you wanted to put it poetically, it creates a dream. Some people say reality is not real, and in one sense, that is true. Others say it must be real, and in another sense, that is also true. What was conveyed to me was that it is a real dream. It is real because it is created by something real—consciousness, truth, you—but it is still dreamlike because it is created and temporary, while the ultimate truth is not.

Compared to that truth, everything in our world is false in the sense that it has a beginning and an end, contrast and polarity, gain and loss, good and bad, up and down. It is like a merry-go-round or a roller coaster. The ultimate truth is not like that. It is everywhere and nowhere, what the Bible might call the unmoved mover. That was what this place felt like—everywhere and nowhere at once. Then, as I watched, the being or presence said, “I know you are worried. You are worried that you might not come home. You are worried that you will never wake up.” It then made clear that these were not real worries there, because my reality had already happened, and I was already home.

There was no time in that place, and what happened next made that even clearer. The white sphere I had been observing, which had remained stable the whole time, suddenly began to expand and convulse as if entering some kind of final phase. It grew larger and larger, and then collapsed in on itself and vanished. As soon as it did, the vortexes above and below it dissipated, like water settling back into stillness after someone stops stirring it. Then there was nothing there at all. Again came the understanding: “You are already home.” And with that came what I can only describe as a kind of cosmic humor. It was as though the presence was gently laughing and saying, “You are taking life too seriously.” It did not condemn that. In fact, it seemed to suggest that the dream is created precisely so that consciousness can lose itself in it. But for me, personally, it was time to be shown that I had taken life too seriously, that I had forgotten the joke, and that I needed to begin laughing again.

That experience changed me permanently. It never left me. Even now, thirty-five years later, I still struggle to express it accurately. It is difficult not only because the experience was so profound, but because ordinary language is such a poor tool for something that exists beyond all the categories language depends on. Still, I wanted you to know what happened, because it is what set me on this path. It is also why, in future videos, I hope to explore not only what it meant for me, but what it may mean for all of us.

The last major thing it showed me was this statement: “I am infinite creative potential.” I did not fully understand what that meant at the time. Then it prompted me to look outward, and when I did, I found myself gazing into what seemed like an infinite sea of consciousness. It could have been immeasurably far away or right beside me; there was no sense of distance or space. What I saw, at first, looked like a vast dark sky full of stars, but they were not stars. They were more alive than stars. They were blinking, vibrant, animate. Then I realized that every one of them was like the white point I had just been shown: an entire reality. And they extended forever in every direction. It was unbelievable. Each one was a reality in which consciousness loses itself in different stories, forms, emotions, joys, tragedies, violence, beauty, and everything else that experience contains.

It also told me something about where we are right now, in this moment of history, though I will speak more about that later. It was a little darker in tone, but the presence itself was not troubled by it. It conveyed that all of it is part of the drama, part of the play, and that we will work ourselves through it. In fact, it suggested that the process would ultimately be extraordinary. When I was looking into what I would call the infinity of creation, I had no idea how long I was there. It felt eternal and instantaneous.

For those of you who have had experiences like this through meditation, psychedelics, or some other path, I hope some of what I am saying resonates with you. For those of you who have not, I hope you stay with me, because I think with enough care, enough conversation, enough honest back-and-forth, and the right questions, we may be able to move closer to understanding together. For those who want to know, who want to talk, who want to participate in this unfolding exploration, I can only say that something is building in consciousness, and it is real. I do not want to present myself as a prophet or a doomsayer. I am simply saying that what I saw made clear to me that reality, in some sense, is already complete. It is like a film already recorded onto a disc. Consciousness can place itself at any point in it and experience that story from within. We feel trapped inside it, but that is part of the illusion. It is a little like The Matrix: first, you realize that you are enslaved, and then you realize that you were free all along.

That is a conversation for another time. For now, I hope you can take something from this and stay with me as we continue. I need to leave this video here because I am absolutely drenched. You may not be able to see the rain on camera, but it is coming down hard. People say God is in every drop, and maybe that is true. The world certainly made it difficult for me to record this today. Everything seemed to resist it. But that is all right. There was always going to be resistance to awakening. We are not here to fight anyone. We are simply going to keep moving toward the truth. It is a beautiful thing. I hope you are all well, and I will see you tomorrow.
