Subcultures, ethnic groups, social classes, and sexual categories all carry unique customs and distinct perspectives on reality. These different lenses of perception contribute to the collective richness of human consciousness. By embracing the value of our own group identities and respecting those of others, we evolve both personally and collectively.

All Chakra Tantra teaches us to expand our identity by:

  • Recognizing our own group’s legacy
  • Understanding others’ lived experiences
  • Cultivating internal dialogue between these perspectives until we realize:
We are a consciousness that includes them all.

PRACTICE: BECOME YOUR GROUP’S CONSCIOUSNESS

Do this with one or more partners. Try these steps:

Remember Your People
Recall the journey of your group—your subculture, class, gender, or identity category.
Imagine their history: the struggles, injustices, joys, and triumphs.

Embody Their Gifts
Notice how your people have changed—and what essential traits have endured.
What wisdom do they bring? What lessons?

Speak as Your Group’s Spirit
Tell your partners what your people need, want, and offer to the world.
Share how you—as your group’s soul—can work with others for humanity’s benefit.

Dialogue with Others
Listen to the spirit voices of other identities. Learn how your group might have harmed others and how you might heal.

Seek forgiveness. Offer it freely. Commit to love in action.

Subcultures, ethnic groups, social classes, and sexual categories have diverse customs and linguistic charts of reality; they thereby have unique contributions to humanity. You grow by accepting the worth of your subcultures and those of others. All‑Chakra Tantra directs you to identify with the consciousness of such groups.

First, consciously identify with your own group’s distinctness.

Next, accept the distinctness of other groups. Reflect on your group from their perspectives.

Let the various ethnic and cultural groups dialogue in your mind until you realize you are a consciousness that includes them all.

The exercise below is best done with several partners.

Recall the history of your people (subculture, class, or sexual category).

Imagine their struggles, challenges, and experiences from the beginning until now. Realize how they changed and how they stayed the same. Notice their unique gifts.

Be aware of what you, as the personification of your group’s heritage and experience, have to contribute to humanity.

Tell the others what you are like, what you want, what you need, and what you have to give the species. As the spirit of your people, speak earnestly with representatives of other ethnic, class & sexual categories.

As your group’s spirit, state your existence and potential contributions to humanity. Describe how you can work more effectively with other groups.

Please share this post and advocate for universal forgiveness, acceptance, assistance, and friendship.
